Before you buy any upgrades to your home, there’s one important question you as a homeowner should always ask: Does this purchase come with a reliable warranty? And at Custom Windows, we’re proud to answer yes! Even though we’re confident our windows are excellent quality and you may never need to use your warranty, we only carry windows from manufacturers who have reliably backed their warranties for decades.

But what exactly does it mean to have a reliable window warranty? What’s the difference between a manufacturer’s warranty and a dealer’s? Actually getting into the details of any warranty arrangement can get confusing quickly. Here’s everything important you need to know about our warranty program before your new windows are installed.

Dealer’s vs. Manufacturer’s Warranty

When it comes to home renovations like windows and patio doors, a dealer’s warranty doesn’t mean nearly as much as a manufacturer’s warranty. After all, dealerships can switch owners or close down, leaving you dangling if you need repair help later on. That’s why it’s so important to ensure you have a manufacturer’s warranty on any home renovations you make. And since Custom Windows has been providing top-quality products and service to Houston for over 40 years, longer than any other window dealer in the area, you’ll never be left hanging.

What is a Limited Warranty?

Most of the time, a manufacturer’s warranty is a limited lifetime warranty. Exact details of a limited warranty will vary between manufacturers, but they all tend to place limits on the repairs the manufacturer will provide. For instance, certain parts of the window may only be covered for a limited time while other parts are still covered. Other warranties may only cover labor for a limited time or not at all, and still other warranties may not transfer to the new homeowner if you sell your house. Always take the time to speak with your window dealer about the exact details of any limited warranty.

Additionally, remember that a dealer’s lifetime warranty is only as good as that offered by the manufacturer. A window dealer cannot add or remove any terms from the manufacturer’s warranty, so what you see is what you get.

Pro Tip: Milgard, one of the window brands carried by Custom Windows, offers a true lifetime warranty that covers parts, labor, and for most products, even glass breakage. You can even transfer the warranty to a new homeowner if you sell your house within 10 years. You can’t do much better than that!
